Trail Description: The Canoe trail is through the Ice
Age National Scientific Reserve area of the Chippewa County Forest.
Canoeists may want to spend time on Town Line Lake fishing for
northern pike, largemouth bass and pan fish. From the boat landing
you will see a canoe rest to the north. This rest marks the start
of the portage trail to Horseshoe Lake. A short portage will bring
you to Horseshoe Lake which also has good fishing. At the north
end of Horseshoe Lake, the trail passes through Lake 28-16, 28-15c
and 28-15d to Pickerel Lake. Pickerel Lake is a deep lake with
bass and pan fish. The trail exits at the southwest end of Pickerel
Lake and winds it way through Lake 33-5. In dry weather you may
be forced to drag or carry your canoe through portions of any
or all of the shallow seepage lakes. The portage trail from Lake
33-5 to Dam Lake is an intermittent drainage from Dam Lake and
will be dry the majority of the time. The longest portage (40
rods) will take you from Dam Lake to Knickerbocker Lake. Canoeists
may camp along the portage trail.
