History

These pages provide a glimpse into the history of Chippewa County Wisconsin.

The lumber industry and fur trading were the main reasons why early settlers came to live and work in Chippewa County.

Be sure to visit the Chippewa County Historical Society in Chippewa Falls (open on Tuesdays) and take a journey into the past. The Historical Society and Genealogical Society are each located by the Notre Dame church on the East hill.

You can contact them with all of your historical questions at:

123 Allen Street
Chippewa Falls, WI 54729-2898
715-723-4399

They have a wealth of information such as photographs, genealogical data, and relics from the early days of the lumber industry, fur trading, and our native American heritage.
