Jim Falls
In the early 1800's James Ermatinger arrived at what was know as Vermillion Falls
or Rapids. He began a trading post with the American Fur Company of New York.
The town's name was then changed to James Falls and later changed again to
Jim Falls. The Jim Falls Hydro Plant was completed in 1923 by the Minnesota-Wisconsin Power Co.
The original Jim Falls Hydro Plant has since been replaced.
Jim Falls is also home of the memorial to Old Abe the War Eagle and AMPI, a
cheese manufacturer which offers tours and sells fresh cheese and butter. Visitors
to Jim Falls have the option of two eateries. Bicyclists, snowmobiles, hikers, horseback
riders, and in-line skaters can access the Old Abe Bike Trail in Anson Town Hall Park in
Cornell with Lake Wissota State Park near Chippewa Falls.
