Cornell
222 Main street Cornell is the trail head for a new multi-use recreational trail. The 20 mile long Old Abe Trail starts in Cornell and winds along the Chippewa River providing a variety of seasonal uses including biking, snowmobiling, horse back riding and walking.
Being an historical paper mill town, Cornell hosts the only remaining pulp wood stacker in the world. The stacker was built in 1911-12. The 247 foot long, 175 foot high stacker was used to cut and pile the logs. The stacker was used in Cornell from 1913 to 1972. The pulp wood stacker now stands as a monument to the logging industry that laid the foundation for the entire Chippewa Valley. Cornell also has a Museum and Visitors Center that displays the artifacts from the logging era. The beautiful and unique Brunet Island State Park is located within the Cornell City limits. It is an island of 179 acres and provides swimming, boating, camping and picnicking facilities. The Brunet Island State Park was dedicated in 1940 as a shrine to the memory of Jean Brunet, "The Pioneer Magnificent." A new shower facility is now open for campers. Special Events
